The Monkeys met at Mr. Seven's place at the usual time of "Late". With a little chow session and meeting of the minds at the kitchen table, the players assembled with one purpose in mind. I don't know what it was, I didn't mind.

With eight player taking their seats around the felt, there was a sense of frivolity in the air as the first game of the year began.

The table rules were relaxed to allow for unlimited re-buys again and it seemed that no one was going to take advantage of the allowance until near the end of the first hour.

Chief brought the super party mix and Mr. Seven share his 3.5 lbs of M&M's. Salt ruled over sugar for the evening ended with Mr. Seven being first out and Chief Splitting first place with Mr. Beck. Moe took home 3rd place.

An announcement to be more diligent with the monkey scores and web posting was made by our very own web master and this post stands as evidence of that commitment.

A text went out to all players announcing the winners and revealing the location of the next meet up which is to take place at Mr. Joshua's house of horrors!

9 players joined at the usual place.

Mr. Seven brought brownies which seemed to bring him luck to start. In an amazing all in with pocket 10s, several players lined up to give away their money when the board came with 2 more 10s to give mr. Seven Quads and all the chips. But Moe was unable to contain his luck and eventually took the chips from Mr. Seven and then Nature boy. For a finish that should not have been, Moe won first place, Nature boy -second and Mr. Seven 3rd.

No bounty was applied tonight for various reasons that were discussed.

But not to prevent any in the future.

By decision of the final participants, the Bounty which was placed on Mr. Wonderful, would be awarded to Mr. Wonderful since no one actually knocked him out. The ruling may be revisited in the future since the Gamemasters understanding was that to win the bounty on oneself, then the game should be played to the finish.

Darren dominated the game with his natural mad skillz and took out the competition one by one until 3 players remained. Systematically, Mr. Seven dismissed "Little Nature" giving him 3rd place and card shop gave up 1st place to Mr. Seven taking second for himself.

Back at Bill's house of pain, we enjoyed some cigar time before the game and after some prodding, Jersey John conceded to stay stating the lingering smoke was irritating his condition. Mark the Chief brought J/B tacos for all and a Mr. Beck brought Garlic Bread that Hostess Katina served up hot. There was some debate about how to play Martin Luther's Kings but with no vote it was a little vague, so after most had left, the argument was brought to Mr. Seven for clarification assuming that someone in the final 4 or 5 had caught the goods.

Jersey built an empire but it crumbled before the final rounds and cardshop tried but lady luck wasn't cooperating. Karuna couldn't really build but held on to his short stack a long time. Mr. Beck who needed the point to cinch the quarter couldn't get to the final three, and Big Moe, caused all kind of trouble but didn't didn't improve. Nature boy had a little gas problem but that didn't keep him from securing first place. Justin and john beck put up a good fight, but both fell victim to Mr. seven who after a difficult start managed to place second after going heads up with the boy nature. Mr. Joshua was short stacked but managed to make a few good hands and finished third.

All of the usual monkeys were present, with no pledges, the game proceeded with Janene's chocolate chip cookies and lots of "shananigans".

1st place was chopped and points split according to chip stack, giving CardShop 1st place 5pts, Marvin 3pts for second and Mr. Joshua 1pt for 3rd.

Okay so it was Jersey's night. He was unstoppable. Even with a giant X on his forehead, he could not be slowed. Some say that fate decides the out come of even poker games. I believe it because this night fate played a joke on all us monkeys as player after player went out, many to the Jersey Machine. Although Mr. Seven made some good plays and captured a strong lead, when it came to the final three, Beck was first to go and then heads up at the 200-400 and 300-600 level was the defining field that Jersey made his presence known. Mr. Seven could not prevail and fell victim to gravity. It was preordained that tonight's points would go to the East Coast. Welcome back Jerz....

Monkeyness abounded as the game got off to a quick start with 7 monkeys and 3 new hopefuls playing. Beck and Hoss were absent as well as the infamous jersey who sent Mr. Seven's phone a couple of photos of himself for reasons unknown. Marlon called in at last minute to announce his absence and Beck claims a cold.

So, with a computer set up for timing the game moved along with a better rythm, and newly instituted blind structure, chips pass back and forth with ease. As was the case last week, Card Shop got off to a fast start building his chip stack by outing the other players. New guy David began the evening with several rebuys, and nature boy and friend joe played very conservativly. The Bridgeport kid had another of his rough evenings, not getting good cards and was almost out, when he started to double up, but things went bad when he pushed all-in with pocket Kings to a three way pot and mr. Seven played his "Seven's" to hit a full house and capture the pot.

The evening progressed as more players hit the dust. Down to the final four, Mr. Seven's luck held up as he methodically took out Card Shop and took the Chip lead. David took out Justin, and then the second hand heads up, Mr Seven held King Jack and call David's pocket 10's all in and spiked a K on the flop which held up to win the tournement.

The monkeys met for the final game of October and although no one donned costumes for the frightening season, the game was filled with the thrills and chills of crazy poker. Notably absent was Nature Boy, who was reported to be learning to fight fires, so said Syndrone.

Mr. Seven was obviously in control of the evening hitting a record 4 full-boats knocking players back to the green without mercy. The Jersey seemed more interested in "lap texting" than playing cards but in between scavaging for snacks he caught some cards and held his own, for a while. The bridgeport kid had, what this commentator feels, was probabaly the coldest cards in a while and never was able to really build his chip stack. Mr. beck played his normal game of cat and mouse, but it seemed more mouse than cat, seeing that he couldn't pull quads out of his pocket as usual. Big Moe made the come back of the evening when down to $350 in chips, he rebuilt his stack with a couple of well timed double ups.

As usual, Karuna made his fasionably late arrival but with the beloved Icelandic water and Donuts in tow. But what went unnoticed was the enormous bag-o-jerky that appeared at end of the evening with great delight of all those meat starved players courtesy of Karuna too.

Mr. Joshua, was the last victim of Mr. Seven run of fortune as he flopped a full house of 9's and 10's and called Mr. J's all-in, holding pocket 6's. This put Karuna and the 7 heads up and since the hour was late, and stacks were just about even, the two called an end to the game in a split for the prize.

Song of the night well, I just couldn't keep track. I'd like to say it was probably Supertramp's "Give a little bit".

Snack of the evening....had to be the hot and spicy beef jerky.

9 players met to compete for the monkey points. Absent was Moe and Jersey. But present was Card Shop who's been missed the past few games.

Hand of the evening was probalby when Mr. Beck took out a suprised Bridgeport Kid out with Quad 4's.

One by one each player was eliminated until there were only 3 left, Beck, Nature boy, and the Infamous Mr. 7 who made a startling recovery after a brilliant performance, that got Nature Boy and the "Kid" to call with their pocket pairs against 7's AA's, tripleing him up.

The final three pressed on until the blinds had reached 400/800. When it was agreed to split the pot 3 ways and earn 3 monkey points each.

October 8 Recap.
In the First Annual Columbus Day Poker Monkey No-Limit Tourney, eightMonkeys and one provisional entered the chase for the all-importantMonkey points. Monkeys Karuna, Hoss, Mr. Beck, Nature Boy, theBridgeport Kid, Moe, Mr. Seven, and Jersey competed, along with provisional member Andrew (nickname forthcoming). The "Black Mariah" rule was not in effect for the first hour, and the game commenced shortlybefore 8:00 pm.Jersey and Mr. Seven were active early, amassing sizable chip stacksduring the early blind levels before giving back most of their chips as the blinds increased. Karuna emerged as an early chip leader by the end of the first hour, with the remaining chips more of less roughly dividedbetween the remaining competitors. Jersey, our “most beloved player”, was the first to bust out, with the finishing blow administered by provisional Andrew. Nature boy knocked out Andrew next with a devistating blow as the river gave Nature Boy a full house foiling Adrews trips. Mr. Seven was the next to go when his K-Q fell tothe Bridgeport Kid’s A-K. Hoss knocked out Moe and then Karuna in quicksuccession, leaving Mr. Beck, Nature Boy, the Bridgeport Kid, and Hoss to battle for the title. Mr. Beck, who caught few cards all night and became seriously short stacked, was the next to go. With three players remaining, Hoss held approximately 15,000 chips while Nature Boy and the ‘Kid held roughly5,000 each. The three battled back and forth for approximately 30 minutes. Hoss seemed content to let the shorter stacks battle it out, though neither seemed able to eliminate the other. The Bridgeport Kid narrowly escaped elimination when he foolishly moved all-in on Hoss following a Q–8-6 flop with a pocket fours and was quickly called byHoss, who had flopped two pair. The turn was a blank, and things werelooking grim for the ‘Kid until he hit a four on the river to stay alive and double up. His chip stack refreshed, the Bridgeport Kid went on to eliminate Nature Boy after being dealt K-K and hitting a third king on the flop, leaving the ‘Kid and Hoss in a heads-up battle for the Monkey crown for thesecond week in a row. This time, however, there would be no chop. Hossheld a 15,000 to 10,000 chip advantage going into the finale, and both players agreed to raise the blinds to 500/1000. The ‘Kid and Hoss Battled for 15 minutes, with the Kid slowly accumulating chips andeventually taking a narrow chip lead. In the final hand of the night, with Hoss in the blind, the ‘Kid was dealt pocket Jacks. He raised to2,000 and Hoss, without looking at his cards, re-raised all-in. The ‘Kidcalled, and Hoss flipped over the king of spades and the two of spades. The ‘Kid’s Jack’s held up, giving him the win. As a side note, Jacks were the card of the night as it seemed they showed up with great frequency and held up as well.

Seven Monkeys and one alternate competed in the first Poker Monkey event of the new Fall Season on October 1. Jersey was out of town, Karuna no-showed (possible sanctions forthcoming) and Card Shop decided to take a week off, leaving Monkeys Mr. Beck, Mr. Joshua, the Bridgeport Kid, Moe (aka Smooth), Mr. Seven, Hoss, and Nature Boy as well as newbie Andrew (nickname forthcoming) in the chase for the all important monkey points.The controversial “Black Mariah” rule was in effect for the first hour and as luck would have it the first hand of the evening gave Mr. Beck with the honor of taking out all involved, including Hoss who had pushed all-in. Hoss commented on the irony of the event after last weeks upset. Mr Seven could not get his game going, was bluffed out of a major pot by Hoss (who showed the bluff) and made an early exit after moving all in with q-10 off and falling to the ‘Kid’s A-7 of hearts. Andrew and Big Moe, whose pocket kings got cracked, followed soon thereafter. Mr. Joshua was eliminated when his trip 2's fell to the “Kid’s flush, leaving four monkeys in the battle for the points. As the game progressed, Mr. Beck managed to land three full houses, and in an unusual twist of fate, actually won with all of them instead of being crushed by an opponent’s quads per his usual. Hoss and the ‘Kid held the big stacks while Nature Boy and Mr. Beck played small stack poker. Hoss eliminated Nature Boy, and the three remaining monkeys battled for at least 30 minutes before Hoss finally defeated a feisty and determined Mr. Beck, leaving Hoss and the ‘Kid to battle for the crown.With blinds at 500/1000, the “Kid held approximately 4000 chips and Hoss approximately 15,000. Hoss put his big stack to work immediately, putting pressure on the ‘Kid in almost every pot. The Kid counter-attacked when he could, survived a couple of all-in moves, and after 20 minutes or so, the two contestants held roughly equivalent stacks with Hoss’ being slightly the larger.
